Larry Yust is known for his photographic elevations showing streets in such perfection and love of detail that you feel like you were there. Presenting his images in books has always been a challenge. At Round not Square, we believe that involuntary adjustments to standardized formats should be a thing of the past: we are proud to present Larry Yust’s work at its best in our aesthetic scroll format.

Larry Yust was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the suburbs of New York and Chicago. He graduated in theater from Stanford University, is married and has three children and six grandchildren. He lives in Los Angeles where he has worked for many years as a writer and director of motion pictures.
Larry developed his process of Photographic Elevations in order to photograph Paris Metro Stations, published in the book “Metro” in 2004. Followed by “The Beautiful Walls” focusing on street art, two more books called “Streets Tell Stories” and “Larry Yust – Photographic Elevations” were published in 2012 and 2014.
Exhibitions and shows of Larry’s work have been taking place at the LA County Museum of Science and Industry, twice at the Fowler Museum at UCLA, at commercial galleries in many cities in Europe, in New York City and at the Louvre in Paris. His work is on permanent display at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.
Larry Yust makes his Photographic Elevations by walking along a line parallel to the subject to be photographed and shooting overlapping shots with his camera always aimed directly at the subject. He then digitally assembles the individual shots into a single image. These images, shot from multiple points of view give views of the world impossible to achieve before digital technology came along and impossible to present in a book in full size without folds before Round not Square came along – so in a way we are the perfect match.
